We believe in taking a gradual approach to exercise. Victory Steps Founder, Bonnie Mechelle, once weighed over 300 pounds and engaged in many fitness programs including working out with a personal trainer. What she discovered was that most fitness trainers, fitness DVD's and fitness boot camps start you off with too much too soon (which causes you to get burned out). As a certified fitness instructor, she created a simple, easy-to-follow workout plan that does not require a gym membership or special equipment.

The Victory Steps workout plan encourages clients to simply walk from 30-60 minutes 3-5 days a week and do a series of strength building exercises like modified sit-ups, modified push-ups and leg-toning squats. We also encourage clients to stretch for 10 minutes a day, and
we provide clients with a stretching diagram to put on their wall to make stretching easy to do! Victory Steps Coaches help clients to stay on track with their fitness plan and give effective suggestions on different ways to workout.

While doing the Victory Steps Program, we encourage clients to set aside 10-20 minutes in the morning to go to the Lord in prayer and study the bible before the day begins. This powerful habit will renew your mind and refresh your faith in a new way. We send clients a weekly spiritual growth journal to help them overcome the self-sabotaging thoughts and attitudes that accelerate doubt, fear and hopelessness and stifle self-confidence and faith. Victory Steps journal exercises help clients to express their true feelings and help them see life's tough circumstances from a more optimistic point of view. The weekly coaching audio sessions that clients receive from Coach Bonnie Mechelle are designed to uplift their spirits and they include a personal prayer made just for plus sized women of faith looking to lose weight and overcome the negatives forces that hold them back in life.

For as long as I can remember, I have struggled with my weight. There have been moments of victory, but those moments were always so fleeting. Soon I would be back to my old ways. My parents taught me about the Lord from the time I was a child. But for all of my adult life, there has been this bondage to food and appearance.

I’ll pick up my story in March of 2011. The preceding nine months had been quite difficult. I was at the heaviest weight I had ever been (around 285 pounds). I had prayed for deliverance more times than I could count. God was working in my life, but I was so impatient for Him to start working on THIS area of my life. I was very depressed, discouraged, and felt utterly trapped. I was completely tired of waiting on the Lord. And I was afraid. So very afraid to move in any direction. I knew I couldn’t do this on my own power; I had tried that many times before and failed miserably. I didn’t think I could handle putting forth my best effort and failing again. In March of 2011, the Lord used my sister to get me exercising.

She purchased a Curves membership for me; and through the grace of God, I began exercising. The Lord was so gracious in that He didn’t ask me to do many things at once; He just asked me to start exercising. Several months later, my sister found Bonnie and Victory Steps. We both felt that the Lord was leading me to do this as well. After delaying
for a number of weeks (that old fear gets me every time), I finally contacted Bonnie and began doing Victory Steps in September of 2011.

I continued on my journey through the fall of 2011. I continued exercising, used the Victory Steps lessons, and just continued walking through life. I had good days and bad days. The journey was definitely not perfect. Sometimes it felt like I was falling more than I was walking. The difference was
that when I failed, I got back up with the Lord’s strength. ~Marilyn
Following the Victory Steps program has taught me to finally forget dieting, and to finally ask God for help with my struggles with food and weignd then allow Him to help me. I thought I was doing that, but Bonnie's expert guidance showed me that I was really trying to do it all she kept me focused and accountable through journal exercises and written assignments that were eye-opening, and she showed me how to have compassion for myself. Bonnie's coaching style is gentle, understanding, and intuitive - she seemed to always suggest a meaningful action step on the spot to support a particular struggle I was having.


The program content covers everything I need to know about what I physically need to do to be healthy, and it is easy to follow, concise, and expertly presented in written and audio formats. Most important to me are the guidelines Bonnie challenged me to weave into my daily life to strengthen my connection with God that is taking away my struggle with food and weight and overeating - these include a commitment to morning prayer, bible study, journaling, and saying a special grace before each meal. Bonnie showed me that she is dedicated, supportive, intelligent - it is obvious that she is put on this earth to help people find peace and love for themselves, inside and out. ~Ashley

Wow, this program is so good. It really worked and I'm very shocked that is actually did, because for the longest time I thought that I was beyond help. I've been addicted to food since I was a kid. Food was my comfort and made me feel good when I was lonley or sad. When I got started with Victory Steps I began to change my eating habits, and learned how to slowly get into an exercise pattern that worked for my body type and preferences.
